| ITINERARY |
| DAY 1: | CUSCO - PISAC (35 Km Biking) | | Morning busride to the Laguna Huaypo near the village of Chinchero. This is the starting point of our mountain bike tour. On old Inca trails we will cross the altiplano of Chinchero until reaching the ruins of Moray (3450 mts/10’400 ft). The circular terraces of Moray had been an agricultural “research laboratory” of the Inca. After visiting the terraces of Moray nearly 20 km Andean downhill are waiting for us! In the afternoon we will reach the Salineras of Pichingote, which have been used since pre-Hispanic times. First camp near Pisac (3000 mts/9900 ft). (L/D) | | DAY 2: | PISAC – TRES CRUCES DE ORO (65 Km Biking) | | This day will lead us through the Andean Highlands and interandean valleys. After climbing the highest pass (4170 mts/13800 ft) of this mountain bike tour we will enjoy the next downhill, passing wide landscapes and small Andean villages until reaching the colonial village of Paucartambo (2900 mts/9600 ft). After climbing up to the Acjanaco-pass (3550 mts/11800 ft), the last pass and entrance to the Manu National Park, we will reach the viewpoint Tres Cruces de Oro (3700 mts/12200 ft). This place offers a great view over the eastern slopes of the Andes and the green canopy of the Amazon Jungle. Camp at the viewpoint. (B/L/D) | | DAY 3: | TRES CRUCES DE ORO – TAMBO PAITITI (65 Km Biking) | | Early risers will be able to observe a spectacular sunrise, being surrounded by the snow-capped mountains of the Cordillera Vilcanota and Cordillera Urubamba. We will look over the Andes to the Amazon Rainforest that extends to the horizon. After breakfast we can enjoy a 65 km downhill, leaving about 2,000 mts/6600 ft of difference in elevation behind us! We will observe the fascinating change from the altiplano to the Cloud Forest of the Manu National Park with its rich flora and fauna. In the afternoon we will reach our lodge Tambo Paititi (1500 mts/4950 ft). (B/L/D) | | DAY 4: | TAMBO PAITITI – CUSCO (40 Km Biking) | The early morning is the best time for bird watching and observation of Cloud Forest animals. We may see the Andean Cock of the Rock (the national bird of Peru), Toucan, Quetzal, Tanager and Motmot as well as Woolly Monkeys, Brown Capuchin Monkeys or Night Monkeys. The Manu Cloud Forest is also habitat of the rare Spectacled Bear, the Jaguarondi, Ocelot, Puma, Weasel, Otter, squirrels and a big family of rodents and bats.
We will be served a rich breakfast before taking the bus back to the Acjanaco-pass. From there we can take chance of the long and soft downhill by mountain bike to Paucartambo. After lunch the bus will take us to the Huachuqasa-pass where we will climb once more the mountain bike until reaching the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Arrival in Cusco by bus late afternoon. (B/L)
