| ITINERARY |
| DAY 1: | MOUNTAIN BIKING FROM THE ANDES TO THE CLOUDFOREST | | Early morning start with an appr. 3 hr busdrive to the sacred valley of the incas and up to the highest point at Abra Malaga. Here we get our mountain bikes ready and follow the road through different ecological zones, passing by the endemic polylepen tree forests with their unique flora and fauna into the rich cloudforest, always accompanied by our bus in case of emergency. Enjoying a recomforting lunch in nature, we continue our biking adventure towards the village of Sta. Maria where our comfortable campsite is already set up. Dinner and overnight at Sta. Maria campsite. (L/D) | | DAY 2: | INCA TRAIL FROM STA. MARIA TO COCALMAYO | | A short busride brings us early morning to the village of Sta. Rosa where we start our hike through the farmlands where the locals produce coca leaves, coffee and a big variety of tropical fruits. We walk on sections of original incan trails and enjoy breathtaking panoramas of the Urubamba canyon. Arriving late afternoon at our comfortable campsite at Cocalmayo we can relax in the fantastic natural hot springs before a delicious dinner. Overnight at Cocalmayo campsite. (B/L/D) | | DAY 3: | INCA TRAIL FROM LUCMABAMBA TO KM 122 | | A unique experience awaits us today: We will travel like, and with the locals on top of a truck that transports tropical fruits (bananas, passion fruit, etc.) and coffee beans through the valley. We will drive appr. 1 hr from Cocalmayo to the village of Lucmabamba. From here we hike over reconstructed Incan Trails up to El Mirador, the highest point, from where we can enjoy breathtaking views onto the surrounding snow peaks – with Mt. Salkantay as the most beautiful one – and a unique, unspoiled panorama towards majestic Machupicchu. After a recomforting lunch with awesome panoramas, we continue our hike with the descent towards the hidro-electric plant of Machupicchu from where we get in a 30 minute trainride to the village of Aguas Calientes. We arrive just in time to enjoy a nice dinner and a comfortable bed in our hotel. (B/L) | | DAY 4: | MACHUPICCHU - CUSCO | | After an early breakfast we take the first bus up to Machupicchu to enjoy sunrise in this magical place before other tourists arrive from Cusco. We enjoy this enigma in a guided tour and will have enough free time to explore the site individually or do some hikes before we descend to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon. Train ride back to Cusco, transfer to the hotel and overnight. (B) | |
